Senior Clubs: Staying Active, Pursuing Passions and Enjoying Good Company
Sports activities, handicraft workshops, foreign language classes, social gatherings, trips to cinemas and theatres – a total of PLN 85 million from the Marshal’s participatory budget is being allocated to establishing senior clubs and implementing projects aimed at older residents of our region. Grants are awarded through Local Action Groups (LAGs). More than PLN 41 million has already been committed! Local Action Groups section
– The diverse range of activities offered to seniors responds to the growing needs of this social group, whose members increasingly want to remain active after retirement. The senior clubs being established are vibrant places, offering group trips, meetings, workshops and activities that help people develop their passions. They demonstrate that later life can be a time of activity, personal development and joy, emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The main objective of the initiatives selected for funding is to protect older people from social isolation and exclusion, which can have a detrimental impact on both mental and physical well-being. However, as the emphasis is on social integration, there is also considerable scope for activities involving all members of local communities.
Senior club members participate in artistic and educational workshops, activities that encourage personal interests and promote healthy lifestyles, as well as training courses in computer skills, fraud prevention and protection against cyber threats.
