Mogilno Bypass Nears Completion
Construction of the second stage of the Mogilno bypass is nearing completion. Once fully completed, the route will divert all through traffic from Regional Road No. 254 away from the town. As part of the project, a new 1.5-kilometre road section, a roundabout and a viaduct over the Panna River have been built from scratch. The project has been funded with European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021 – 2027.
“We are not only modernising existing roads, but also building new sections of roads in Kujawy and Pomorze that create a functional transport network across the entire region,” says Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “By diverting lorries away from towns, bypasses allow streets in town centres to continue serving local traffic, pedestrians and cyclists. Completing the Mogilno bypass will help achieve this goal.”
The new section connects the existing roundabout in Świerkówiec with the village of Żabno. This has also diverted through traffic away from the southern part of Mogilno. The first section of the bypass, from Wiecanowo to Świerkówiec, was built in the previous decade. The investment just completed included, among other things, a 220-metre-long viaduct over the Panna River. Due to weak soil conditions, the ground had to be reinforced with concrete piles. At the junction with the existing regional road and the local road towards Bystrzyca, a new four-arm roundabout with pavements and pedestrian crossings has been built. Animal crossings, drainage infrastructure and drainage ditches have also been constructed along the route. More than 200 trees and nearly 2,000 shrubs have been planted along the road. Construction work was carried out by Strabag.
The project is worth PLN 86.7 million. The investment is co-financed by EU funds under the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 programme. The viaduct has already undergone load testing. Once an occupancy permit has been obtained, the route is scheduled to open to traffic later this autumn.

Kujawsko-Pomorskie bypass construction programme
The regional self-government is systematically increasing the funds available for design and construction work under the regional bypass construction programme. The programme covers bypasses with a combined length of more than 70 km. Its implementation over the coming years will cost PLN 1 billion. Under our 2021 – 2027 regional programme, we have allocated a record EUR 136 million for the expansion and modernisation of road infrastructure. We have secured PLN 170 million in national government funding for three bypasses – Brodnica, Rypin and Tuchola.
