Mayors’ Convention Discusses the Revision of the Regional Development Strategy and Support for Rural Areas

Marshal Piotr Całbecki attended today’s (October 9) meeting of the Convention of Mayors of Rural Municipalities in our Region. The agenda included an update from the Marshal on progress towards revising the regional development strategy, the most important regional planning document, which defines, among other things, how EU funds are invested.

Local leaders from across the region gathered in Poledno, in Świecie County. Discussions covered support for municipalities under the Rural Development Programme, the offer of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (the Polish State Development Bank), and current programmes run by the Voivodeship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. The Marshal was accompanied by Elżbieta Siemiątkiowska, Director of the Department of Rural Development at the Marshal’s Office, and Marcin Kurasz, Director of the Department of Social Affairs.

The principles and timetable for work on the regional development strategy through 2035, adopted by the Regional Parliament in February, formally concern a new document. In terms of both its underlying vision and its practical content, however, we are revising the strategy currently in force. This is necessary because a strategy is a living document that must be continually evaluated, its assumptions assessed against the current economic and social situation, and its provisions updated and made more realistic.

The Regional Executive Board is responsible for preparing the strategy’s objectives, conducting public consultations, and developing the final draft. It plans to submit the completed draft to the Regional Parliament no later than March 2027.
