Bydgoszcz Stary Fordon to Be Added to the Railway Timetable in December
Ten pairs of trains operating between Bydgoszcz and Chełmża will begin stopping at the newly built Bydgoszcz Stary Fordon railway stop in December. This is another investment of its kind made possible through cooperation between the regional government and PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (Polish State Railways – Polish Railway Lines).
– This will be the third railway stop we open when the new train timetable comes into effect in December. I am convinced that by expanding railway infrastructure and continuously improving our transport services, we will encourage more residents of our region to travel by train more frequently. I wish everyone pleasant journeys on our regional trains – says Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The new railway stop has been built near the railway viaduct on Fordońska Street. Passengers will have access to two platforms with convenient pedestrian routes.
The stop will open to passengers on 13 December, when the new passenger train timetable comes into effect. A total of ten pairs of trains operating between Chełmża and Bydgoszcz will stop at Stary Fordon.
The investment was carried out by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. as part of a larger project to modernise railway infrastructure in Fordon, worth nearly PLN 42 million net and co-financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Two other newly built railway stops, Nakło nad Notecią Zachodnie and Brodnica Południowa, will also open in December.
In recent years, several new railway stops have been added to the region’s rail network, making regional and national train connections more accessible to passengers.
New railway stops:
- Tuchola Rudzki Most
- Grudziądz Tuszewo
- Grudziądz Śródmieście
- Grudziądz Rządz
- Dąbrowa Chełmińska Centrum (Bydgoszcz County)
- Brodnica Południowa
- Nakło nad Notecią Zachodnie
- Trzeciewnica (Nakło County)
In addition to constructing new stops, the railway infrastructure company has modernised the Bydgoszcz Zachód and Grzybno (Chełmno County) stops and built a new pedestrian access route to the Grudziądz Mniszek stop.
As the authority responsible for organising regional rail passenger services, the regional government will continue to implement its transport policy in close cooperation with PKP PLK. Rail transport should be accessible not only through an adequate number of connections but also through railway stops located as close as possible to where passengers live and work.
The regional government currently has a steadily expanding fleet of 33 trains. Next year, additional trains manufactured by Bydgoszcz-based Pesa will enter service. The seven trainsets ordered by the regional government have a total value of PLN 330 million.
In 2026, the regional government’s subsidies to the railway operators selected through competitive tenders (Arriva and Polregio) amount to a record PLN 267 million. This figure also includes the costs of railway infrastructure access charges and station fees (PLN 37 million).
