Jubilee Knights’ Tournament at Golub-Dobrzyń Castle

Jousting tournaments, horse races and stunt shows marked the past weekend (3–5 July) at Golub Castle, which hosted the 50th Grand International Knights’ Tournament. The main partner of the event was the Kujawsko-Pomorskie  regional government.

“The Knights’ Tournament in Golub-Dobrzyń has been attracting history enthusiasts from across Poland for half a century. It has become a permanent fixture in the calendar of the most important events in our voivodeship and is one of its most recognisable tourist attractions,” says Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “It is not only about spectacular duels and displays, but also a living history lesson and an excellent opportunity for families to spend time together.”

The event opened with a procession of knights marching to the market square in Golub. Following the official opening of the tournament and the presentation of the teams, qualifying rounds were held in skill, crossbow and archery competitions, as well as a mounted tournament for heavily armoured knights and paired contests. The day concluded with the evening stunt show “Horse and Fire – Two Elements.”

The finals of all competitions and the closing ceremony took place on Sunday. Accompanying attractions included historical reenactments, sword-and-shield combat, live history lessons, tournaments for the youngest participants, a medieval fair and displays by the Hussar Banner of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.
