Because Every Child Deserves a Good and Safe Childhood!

Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Elżbieta Piniewska, Chair of the Regional Parliament, attended today’s (24 September) conference on protecting children and young people from violence and promoting the mental health of young people in the region. The event concluded with the signing of the Stop Violence Against Children Manifesto.

The regional self-government has for years been actively involved in initiatives focusing on the physical and mental health of children and young people. The conference, held under the title “I See, I Support, I Respond. How Can We Work Together to Build a Safe Environment for a Child?”, aimed to strengthen the knowledge, skills and awareness of people who work with children, young people and families. Particular emphasis was placed on developing the ability to recognise signs that a child’s wellbeing may be at risk, respond appropriately in crisis situations and help create a safe environment for children.

The conference featured experts in psychology, including Monika Wirżajtys, a trauma psychotherapist and founder of the My Ally Fam Roots Psychotherapy Centre; Dr Jana Chojecka, affiliated with the Rehabilitation and Social Reintegration Department at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań; and Justyna Żukowska-Gołębiewska, a clinical psychologist, specialist in focused therapy and author of the “An Hour for Young People” prevention programme. Participants could also take part in one of three workshops, where theoretical knowledge was put into practice.

The event concluded with the ceremonial reading and signing of the Stop Violence Against Children Manifesto by those in attendance. “This manifesto expresses the conviction that every child deserves a good and safe childhood. It brings together people who believe that children should grow up in an atmosphere of respect, closeness and safety – free from violence,” the document states.
