Our Remote Healthcare Service – Affordable, Simple and Much Needed
Home-based remote healthcare, one of the most important social projects run by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Regional Self-Government, is proving to be a highly popular approach to care services. We are sharing our experience in this field with partners from seven EU countries as part of the international project “Remote Healthcare for Silver Europe” (CARES). The project’s closing conference is being held today (October 7) in Toruń, with Elżbieta Piniewska, President of the Regional Parliament, among the participants.
“Every fifth resident of our region is a senior citizen. Many of them need an efficient, well-functioning support system to help them manage everyday life. Given the technological solutions available to us, remote healthcare based on so-called ‘life bracelets’ has proven to work well. It is a relatively affordable and relatively simple solution, and one that has also attracted the interest of our European partners,” Marshal Piotr Całbecki says.
Our remote healthcare programme currently provides ongoing support to 3,500 people, including centenarians living in the region. The regional self-government is the lead partner, working together with 91 municipal and local government authorities, Nicolaus Copernicus University, the Regional Ambulance Service and the Ekspert-Kujawy Foundation based in Inowrocław. The monitoring and dispatch centre in Toruń is operated by professional paramedics.
CARES is an international project funded by European resources under the Interreg Europe programme. It brings together eight European regions from Poland, France, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Spain and Croatia. Its aim is to develop care systems tailored to the needs of older people who are no longer fully independent. The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region initiated the project and serves as the lead partner responsible for its coordination.
