Film Fund: Horror Film Reflection Shot in Toruń

Our Kujawy Pomorze Film Fund is a production partner, and the leading roles are played by Karolina Bruchnicka, Aleksandra Justa and Tomasz Dedek.

The film crew could be spotted at several locations in July, including the Olender Ethnographic Park in Wielka Nieszawka and the former medical facility on Krasińskiego Street in Toruń, as the story is set in a psychiatric hospital.

Two young people die in brutal and unexplained circumstances, while the sole survivor, played by Karolina Bruchnicka, is admitted to a psychiatric hospital, where she struggles with profound trauma,” reveals Paweł Sadowski, the director of Reflection, outlining the film’s plot.

The psychiatrists, played by Aleksandra Justa and Tomasz Dedek, attempt to reconstruct the events that led to the tragedy.

The film is a psychological thriller with elements of horror, focusing on the relationship between the two female protagonists and the gradual revelation of their deepest fears.

As further pieces of the puzzle are uncovered, a tense relationship develops between the protagonists, balancing between trust and fear. The truth emerges gradually and reluctantly. The boundary between reality and distorted perception begins to blur, leading to a discovery that calls into question the very nature of what had previously been regarded as real,” the director says of the film.

Paweł Sadowski, whose previous works include the short fiction films Breakdown (2017) and Incognito (2022), also wrote the screenplay for Reflection. Jakub Sztuk is the director of photography and, together with Michał Surma, is also responsible for the production.

The leading roles are played by well-known actors. In 2019, Karolina Bruchnicka received the award for Best Acting Debut in the Polish Feature Film Competition at the Off Camera Festival in Kraków for her performance in Łukasz Grzegorzek’s A Coach’s Daughter. Last year, she received the Tomorrow’s Icon award at Warsaw SerialCon for her role in Jacek Lusiński’s drama series A Minute of Silence.

Aleksandra Justa is known for playing the royal household mistress in TVP’s historical series The Crown of the Kings: The Jagiellonians and The Kings. Tomasz Dedek, the most experienced member of the cast, gained widespread popularity for his role as Jędrula in Polsat’s series The Foster Family.

Reflection is currently in the editing and sound-production stage and is expected to be completed in the autumn. Its premiere is scheduled for 2027.
