Open-Air Cinema at the 9 Hills Festival in Chełmno
Three film screenings and meetings with actors and filmmakers are planned as part of this year’s 9 Hills Festival in Chełmno, which will take place on the second weekend of August.
The film section of the Chełmno festival will be connected with the “50 to 51” project. This is a nationwide series of film screenings and showcases organised by the Pomeranian Film Foundation, the producer of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. Special screenings and meetings with actors and filmmakers are taking place in 14 voivodeships. The initiative will continue until February 2027 and serves as a bridge between the festival’s jubilee 50th edition and the forthcoming 51st edition.
In July, the “50 to 51” project visited Toruń during the BellaTofifest International Film Festival. To mark the Year of Andrzej Wajda, the great director was remembered by actresses who appeared in his films: Emilia Krakowska, Grażyna Szapołowska, Agata Buzek and Alicja Bachleda-Curuś.
In Chełmno, open-air screenings will take place at the Cinema on the Nine Hills, located on the grounds of the Chełmno Academy at 6 Szkolna Street.
On Friday, 7 August, at 9 p.m., the comedy LARP: Love, Trolls and Other Quests, directed by Kordian Kądziela, will be screened. Andrzej Konopka, who plays the father of the main character, received the 2026 Polish Film Award – the Eagle – for Best Supporting Actor, as well as the 2026 Tofifest Golden Angel for an original acting performance.
On Saturday, 8 August, at 9 p.m., audiences at the 9 Hills Festival will see Michał Grzybowski’s Seasons. The film was produced in 2024 in partnership with our Kujawy Pomorze Film Fund. It is a comedy about a marital crisis experienced by a pair of actors, Marcin, played by Łukasz Simlat, and Ola, played by Agnieszka Dulęba-Kasza.
The film was shot entirely in Toruń, including at the Wilam Horzyca Theatre. The cast also features such stars as Andrzej Seweryn and Andrzej Grabowski. The screening will be followed by a meeting with Agnieszka Dulęba-Kasza and Michał Grzybowski.
The Saturday evening at the open-air cinema will not end there. At 11 p.m., a screening of Juliusz, directed by Aleksander Pietrzak, will begin. Jan Peszek plays the party-loving artist and painter who is the father of the title character. A meeting with this outstanding actor is scheduled for Sunday, 9 August, at 2 p.m. in Nowe Planty Park.
9 Hills Festival in Chełmno
During the 9 Hills Festival, this beautiful city is transformed into one large stage for theatre, music, performances and visual arts. The name of the event refers to the nine hills on which medieval Chełmno was built.
The events take place in the heart of the city, with its streets, squares, courtyards, cellars and churches becoming venues filled with artistic installations, concerts, theatre performances and workshops. The programme of each edition is so varied that everyone can find something of interest.
The 11th edition of the 9 Hills Festival will take place from 7 to 9 August this year.
