‘The good house’ Was a Box-Office Hit – Now Available on HBO Max

The most talked-about Polish film of recent months has been available on HBO Max since 31 July. Wojciech Smarzowski’s film attracted 2.5 million cinema-goers.

In early July, The good house triumphed in the Polish Films Competition at the Tofifest International Film Festival in Toruń, where the winner was chosen by the audience.

“I do not make films for awards, but for audiences. That is why audience awards will always be the most important to me. Thank you very much for this one. Since filmmaking is a collective effort, I would like to thank everyone I had the pleasure of working with on “The good house”: the actors, the crew, the co-producers, the producers and the partners,” director Wojciech Smarzowski wrote to the audience at the time.

The good house was produced with the support of our Kujawy Pomorze Film Fund. The Bydgoszcz-based company Lucky Bob was responsible for the production. Despite its difficult subject matter – domestic violence – the film became a major box-office success, attracting almost 2.5 million cinema-goers.

It also received critical acclaim, winning five Polish Film Awards – the Eagles, often referred to as the “Polish Oscars” – in 2026, including the most prestigious honours. It was named Best Film of the Year, Smarzowski received the Eagle for Best Director, Agata Turkot and Tomasz Schuchardt won the awards for Best Leading Actress and Best Leading Actor, while Mikołaj Trzaska was honoured for the film’s music.

In late January, Smarzowski’s film made its streaming debut on Amazon’s Prime Video platform. Since 31 July, it has also been available on HBO Max, owned by the American media company Warner Bros. Discovery.

In October last year, Wojciech Smarzowski received the Pola Negri Film Award of the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.
