Film Kujawy Pomorze: Dorota Stalińska to receive the Golden Angel at Tofifest
The actress, celebrating 50 years of artistic work, will receive the Golden Angel for a “lady of Polish cinema” during the 24th edition of BellaTOFIFEST in Toruń. The regional self-government of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region is the festival’s main partner.
Stalińska is an icon of Polish cinema of the 1980s. She graduated from the State Higher School of Theatre in Warsaw. She made her big-screen debut in 1976 with a minor role as a photojournalist in Andrzej Wajda’s acclaimed Man of Marble. Her status as a star and a specialist in portraying strong, ruthless, and psychologically complex women came through her long-standing collaboration with director Barbara Sass. For her expressive roles in Sass’s films Without Love and Scream, she twice received the Bronze Lions at the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdańsk (1980 and 1984). In 1981, she was awarded the prestigious Zbyszek Cybulski Award for talented young actors for her role as the cynical journalist Ewa in Without Love. She has worked with Krzysztof Kieślowski, Filip Bajon, Juliusz Machulski, and Jerzy Skolimowski.
In 1998, she survived a serious car accident, after which she founded the “Nadzieja” (“Hope”) foundation, promoting road safety. In 2023, she returned to audiences with the role of Jagustynka in the animated The Peasants by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman. A year later, she received an acting award at the “Dwa Brzegi” festival in Kazimierz Dolny for her role as the elderly Zofia in Moje stare.
“Cinema history according to Dorota Stalińska is alive, constantly being written without pause or rest. Polish cinema is a treasure not only of wonderful films, but also of artists who have written and continue to write their own stories,” said Kafka Jaworska, director of the BellaTOFIFEST International Film Festival.
The Golden Angel for a lady of Polish cinema is one of the most prestigious awards of the Toruń festival. It is awarded to “individuals whose achievements have permanently inscribed themselves in the history of Polish cinematography.”
Earlier, organizers announced that Agata Kulesza will receive the Golden Angel for artistic nonconformity.
The 24th edition of BellaTOFIFEST will run from June 27 to July 3, 2026. Screenings will take place at CKK Jordanki, Cinema City, the Artus Court Cultural Centre, and an outdoor cinema. This year’s theme will be the film 12 Monkeys directed by Terry Gilliam. The opening film will be No Good Men by Afghan director Shahrbanoo Sadat.
