Actor from the region won a prestigious award
Tomasz Ziętek has won the award for Best Actor in the Polish Feature Film Competition at the Mastercard Off Camera festival in Kraków.
The Polish Feature Film Competition is one of the main sections of the International Festival of Independent Cinema in Kraków. This year’s edition was won by the film “Klarnet,” directed by Tola Jasionowska. Acting awards were also presented.
The Best Actor prize went to Tomasz Ziętek, who comes from our region. He was recognized “for an empathetic, sensitive and moving” performance in “Wielka Warszawska,” directed by Bartłomiej Ignaciuk. In the film, he plays the lead role of Krzysiek, a young jockey dreaming of a great career in horse racing.
Tomasz Ziętek was born in Inowrocław. He is an actor and musician, and a graduate of the Danuta Baduszkowa Vocal and Acting Studio at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia. He made his stage debut in 2005 at the New Theatre in Słupsk in the play “Betleyem polskie.” He first appeared on the big screen in 2011 in a minor role in “Black Thursday. Janek Wiśniewski Fell,” where he played Zbyszek Godlewski—the man killed and carried by demonstrators on a door. Three years later, he gained recognition for his role as Rudy in “Stones for the Rampart.” In 2015, he appeared in “Body/Ciało” alongside stars such as Janusz Gajos, Maja Ostaszewska, and Adam Woronowicz.
Another film featuring Ziętek, “Silent Night” (2017), received numerous awards, including at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, and won nine Eagles—the prestigious awards of the Polish Film Academy. Ziętek was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for this role, though the award went to his co-star Arkadiusz Jakubik. He also received Eagle nominations for his performances in “Corpus Christi” (2019) and “Leave No Traces” (2021). His role in “Operation Hyacinth” (2021) earned him a nomination for the Zbigniew Cybulski Award for young actors.
Tomasz Ziętek is also a guitarist and vocalist in the band “The Fruitcakes.” In 2023, he released his debut solo album “Some Old Songs.”
