Wonders of Poland 2026: Mouse Tower and Lake Gopło in Kujawsko-Pomorskie
Kruszwica has a reason to celebrate! Mouse Tower and Lake Gopło have been awarded the title of Wonder of Poland 2026 in a competition organised by National Geographic Traveler. This is excellent news for the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Constellations of Good Places and a perfect opportunity to remind tourists just how many extraordinary destinations are waiting to be discovered in our region.
– Kujawsko-Pomorskie is home to many places that captivate visitors with their history, natural beauty and unique atmosphere. I am delighted that Kruszwica and its remarkable heritage have been recognised in a nationwide competition. This is a source of pride and yet another reason to explore the beauty of our region – says Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
This year’s edition of the competition demonstrated that Poles are eager to discover extraordinary places close to home and off the beaten track. A total of 48 destinations from Poland’s 16 voivodeships competed for the title of Wonder of Poland 2026, with readers casting more than 200,000 votes for the nominated attractions! This year’s winners include destinations that stand out for their natural beauty, history and distinctive atmosphere.
The competition in Kujawsko-Pomorskie was particularly interesting. Three attractions competed for the title: Mouse Tower and Lake Gopło in Kruszwica, the complex of graduation towers and saltworks in Ciechocinek, and the House of Toruń Legends. It was Kruszwica that won the voters’ recognition!
What makes this place so special?
Simply look at Mouse Tower rising above the surrounding landscape, recall the legend of King Popiel and admire the vast expanse of Lake Gopło. Here, history intertwines with nature, while beautiful views are accompanied by stories that have captured people’s imaginations for generations. It is a place worth visiting, experiencing its atmosphere and discovering in your own way.
– The region’s tourism appeal lies in places that have their own stories, authentic character and the ability to captivate visitors. Kruszwica is a perfect example. The Wonder of Poland title gives it greater visibility, but it is also an invitation to explore the whole of Kujawy and Pomorze. We want tourists to go beyond a single point on the map and discover other destinations, local stories and attractions. Each of these places is a star in its own right, and together they form the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Constellations of Good Places, which are worth exploring throughout the year – says Beata Sawińska, President of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Tourism Organisation.
The Wonders of Poland competition, organised by the editorial team of National Geographic Traveler, has been encouraging people for years to discover extraordinary places across all 16 Polish voivodeships. This year’s results once again demonstrate that tourism treasures are not always far from home. Sometimes all it takes is a short detour from a familiar route to discover somewhere truly impressive.
For Kruszwica, the Wonder of Poland 2026 title is not only a source of pride but also an opportunity to strengthen its position on Poland’s tourism map. And for everyone looking for an idea for a weekend getaway, the choice is clear: head to Kruszwica!
More information about the winners is available on the National Geographic website. Detailed features on the winning destinations will be published in the print edition of National Geographic Traveler, issue 12/2026.
