They Passed with Flying Colours
The Armed Forces Support Inspectorate, headquartered in Bydgoszcz, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Marshal Piotr Całbecki, Vice-Minister of National Defence Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka and Voivode Michał Sztybel attended today’s (October 6) anniversary ceremony at Opera Nova.
“We are living in very dangerous times, which require you to make difficult decisions and show determination in the course of your service. The transformation of the Polish Armed Forces requires you to acquire a wide range of new skills and competences. The Inspectorate has passed this transformation test with flying colours. I salute all the officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers stationed in our region. You are one organisation acting on behalf of and for the benefit of the Polish nation. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your service,” Marshal Piotr Całbecki said during the ceremony.
The Armed Forces Support Inspectorate, named after Marshal Józef Piłsudski, was established on October 6, 2006, and has been headquartered in Bydgoszcz from the very beginning. It is one of the most important units of the Polish Armed Forces. Its responsibilities include organising and managing the logistical support system for Polish troops, managing military property, providing logistical support to North Atlantic Alliance forces stationed in Poland, and training logistics specialists for all branches of the armed forces.
The Armed Forces Support Inspectorate, headed for the past year and a half by Major General Dariusz Mendrala, has 38,000 military personnel and civilian employees within its structures.
Bydgoszcz is also home to several other important units of the Polish Armed Forces and the North Atlantic Alliance, including the NATO Joint Force Training Centre (JFTC), the NATO 3rd Signal Battalion, the NATO Military Police Centre of Excellence, the 1st Pomeranian Logistics Brigade named after King Casimir the Great, and the 8th Kujawsko-Pomorskie Territorial Defence Brigade named after Brigadier General Elżbieta Zawacka “Zo.”
