Police Day – Respect, Trust, and Gratitude

“I wish you that this demanding service continues to bring you satisfaction and remains a source of personal pride. May the police uniform always be met with public respect, trust, and human gratitude,” said Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski, who represented the regional government at the Regional and Municipal Police Day celebrations in Bydgoszcz.

The ceremony, held today (15 July) in the Old Market Square, was also attended by Elżbieta Piniewska, President of the Regional Parliament.

“As the regional self-government, we fully understand that an effective police service requires not only the commitment of its officers but also modern equipment. […] This is demonstrated by the projects we completed together at the end of 2025 and this year. Through the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze regional programme, we provided the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Police with state-of-the-art equipment worth more than PLN 4 million, including three advanced mobile command centres, logistics vehicles for transporting police dogs, and specialist drone systems supporting rescue operations. We also care about the safety of police officers. Every year, we allocate hundreds of thousands of zlotys from the regional budget for professional equipment. We see this not as an expense, but as the best long-term investment in a safer future for Kujawy and Pomorze,” Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski emphasized in his address.

The celebrations in the Old Market Square were preceded by a Holy Mass at Bydgoszcz Cathedral.

The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region is home to 19 municipal and district police headquarters, overseeing 27 police stations and 37 local police posts. The regional police force comprises 5,250 police officers and 1,190 civilian employees.

On an average day, officers respond to around 650 incidents, conduct sobriety tests on approximately 1,550 drivers, inspect 1,250 vehicles, and verify the identities of around 4,000 people.

Police Day is celebrated to commemorate the establishment of the State Police in Poland in 1919.
