National Independence Day Celebrations

Celebrations marking the 118th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence will take place across the region on Wednesday, 11 November. Marshal Piotr Całbecki, Voivode Michał Sztybel, the mayors of Bydgoszcz and Toruń, and the commanders of the military garrisons in both regional capitals invite residents to take part in the official regional commemorations. In addition to formal ceremonies, the programme will include historical reenactments, outdoor events and concerts.

– National Independence Day is our most important national holiday. By gathering under the white-and-red flags, we demonstrate our national unity and pride in our shared history, Polish culture and rich traditions. I encourage everyone to celebrate together! – says Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

In Bydgoszcz, a patriotic ceremony featuring military honours will take place in the Old Market Square. It will be preceded by a Holy Mass for the homeland at Bydgoszcz Cathedral. The programme also includes displays of historical weapons and military uniforms, artistic performances and sporting competitions. Further details are available on the Voivode’s official website.

In Toruń, National Independence Day celebrations will begin with a Holy Mass at the Garrison Church, followed by a patriotic ceremony in the Old Town Square. The official commemorations will be accompanied by a historical picnic, art workshops at the Gallery and Centre for Children’s Artistic Creativity, and a concert by Łukasz Drapała and his band. The full programme is available on the City of Toruń’s website.

As is tradition, we also invite everyone to Przysiek on 10 and 11 November for the Goose Meat Festival. The programme includes cooking demonstrations and tastings, stalls offering food from local producers, competitions with prizes and film screenings.
