Modern education from an early age
An additional 3,000 young children from across the region will take part in daily English language classes as part of the second edition of the project “Bilingual Preschoolers of Kujawsko-Pomorskie”. A conference was held today at the Nicolaus Copernicus University Auditorium in Toruń, attended by Elżbieta Piniewska, President of the Regional Parliament, Marek Wojtkowski, Member of the Regional Executive Board, and regional councillors Anna Niewiadomska, Katarzyna Stranz-Kaja, and Sławomir Kopyść. During the event, local government leaders from municipalities, towns and counties symbolically signed a partnership agreement confirming participation in the project.
“Knowledge of English opens doors to the world. There is no need to be convinced that the earlier we start learning foreign languages, the easier it is to acquire new knowledge. I am glad that our programme is also being implemented in smaller towns, where access to additional classes or private tutoring is often limited,” emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The project is based on teaching English in accordance with the Bilingers System of Universal Bilingual Education, which involves daily exposure to the language – both in the classroom, on the playground, and during educational trips. Sixty local governments have joined the second edition of the programme.
As part of the initiative, preschools will be equipped with multimedia tools, including interactive displays, tablets and laptops, as well as teaching materials such as puppets, toys, theatre kits, musical instruments, and educational aids. More than 300 teachers will participate in training courses on bilingual teaching methodology. Parents will also gain access to a dedicated bilingual education platform and sets of learning exercises for their children. The total value of the project is nearly PLN 12 million, with almost PLN 11 million co-financed by the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027.
“Bilingual Preschoolers of Kujawsko-Pomorskie II” in numbers:
- 3,000 children participating in classes
