Good Energy for Grudziądz
The historic Upper Mill in Grudziądz is undergoing a major modernisation and expansion to make way for a new cultural and educational centre run by the Kujawsko-Pomorska Akademia Innowacji. Today (25 September), Marshal Piotr Całbecki is attending the official foundation stone ceremony in the presence of Tomasz Szymański, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, Senator Ryszard Bober, Regional Assembly councillors and Grudziądz Mayor Maciej Glamowski. Construction of the Młyn Energii (Energy Mill) is scheduled for completion in spring next year.
The 19th-century building, located in the city centre at the junction of Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej and Młyńska Streets, will house, among other things, a multi-level exhibition taking visitors on a journey through the different forms of energy:
- Ground floor – water energy: one of the main features will be a reconstructed historic turbine and an immersive multimedia presentation
- First floor – electrical energy: exploring the technological revolution brought about by its use
- Second floor – biological energy: processes taking place in living organisms
- Third floor – the world of space research
- Fourth floor – a modern bio-chemical laboratory for experiments and educational activities.
The restored historic building, adapted to its new function, will also include a 170-seat auditorium, seven exhibition rooms, workshop spaces and a café.
Current works include cleaning and repairing the historic façade, installing utilities and windows, and clearing and restoring the Trynka Canal.
Work is also under way on the thematic exhibitions. One of the highlights will be a 120-year-old Francis turbine discovered during the construction works, which was once used to generate electricity.

The PLN 76 million project is receiving PLN 50 million in funding from the regional European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze programme (FEdKP).
The project is a joint initiative of the regional self-government and the municipal authorities of Grudziądz. The substitute investor is Kujawsko-Pomorskie Inwestycje Regionalne, while the construction work is being carried out by Toruń-based Firma Budowlana Fijałkowski. The project has now passed the halfway point and is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2027.
