Today (3 June), in the presence of President of the Regional Parliament Elżbieta Piniewska and members of the Regional Executive Board Marek Wojtkowski and Dariusz Kurzawa, a contract was signed for the construction of a roundabout in Rzadkwin on Regional Road No. 255 in Mogilno County. This is another investment project being delivered under the region’s programme to eliminate hazardous locations on roads. A tender procedure is also underway for the construction of the Trląg bypass. Both projects will be financed using funds from the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027 programme.

“Safety is the key priority when modernising roads,” stresses Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “As part of our extensive road investment programme, we are building new roundabouts, pavements and illuminated pedestrian crossings. We are using European funds to support these projects.”

The new roundabout will replace the existing intersection with a staggered priority layout. Traffic lanes approaching the roundabout will be separated by splitter islands. Road shoulders will be constructed along the entire section, and the roundabout will be designed to accommodate oversized vehicles. Proper drainage will be ensured through newly profiled ditches and culverts.

The project is financed under the regional programme European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie (EFKP). The contract, worth PLN 5.9 million, was awarded to Polbud Polak. The contractor has six months to complete the works, after which the roundabout will be covered by a seven-year warranty. The agreement was signed by Hubert Polak, commercial proxy of the contractor, and Przemysław Dąbrowski, Director of the Regional Roads Authority in Bydgoszcz. The ceremony at the Marshal’s Office was also attended by Dariusz Chudziński, Mayor of Strzelno, and Emilia Walkowiak, Chair of the Strzelno Municipal Council.

The project also includes the modernisation of Regional Road No. 255 from the road leading to Bronisław to the section rebuilt last year, when a three-kilometre stretch between Rzadkwin and Bławaty was reconstructed. Completed in December at a cost of PLN 18 million, that investment involved virtually rebuilding the road from scratch. Hardened shoulders, bus bays and illuminated pedestrian crossings were added, together with new drainage ditches and evaporation ponds.

In May, a new roundabout on Regional Road No. 255 in Broniewice was officially opened.

Further Investments Planned on Regional Road No. 255

• A tender is currently underway for the construction of the Trląg bypass, covering a 3.1-kilometre section from the new Broniewice roundabout construction site to the cemetery in Trląg.
• Design documentation is being updated for the reconstruction of the section between the railway crossing in Broniewice and the village centre, including the reconstruction of a large culvert.

Safer Intersections and New Traffic Signals

The Rzadkwin project forms part of a broader programme aimed at eliminating dangerous locations on regional roads, financed through the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027. Projects completed so far include:

• construction of a roundabout in Sępólno Krajeńskie
• installation of traffic lights in Bysław (Tuchola County)
• construction of a roundabout in Golub-Dobrzyń
• construction of a roundabout in Broniewice (Inowrocław County)
• construction of a roundabout in Dyblin (Lipno County)

This summer, a newly built roundabout in Barcin (Żnin County) is scheduled for completion. Work has also begun on Regional Road No. 244 in Żołędowo, including a roundabout at the junction with the county road to Kotomierz.

Record Investment in Regional Roads

A total of PLN 2 billion has been allocated to the regional road modernisation programme for the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027 (EFKP) programme, EUR 136 million has been earmarked for road infrastructure projects, including the regional bypass construction programme. Additional funding secured from national sources will support bypass projects (approximately PLN 170 million) and the expansion of other roads (approximately PLN 450 million).
