5th Kujawsko-Pomorskie Forum of Science, Innovation, Business and Local Government

Marshal Piotr Całbecki attended the opening session of the 5th Kujawsko-Pomorskie Forum of Science, Innovation, Business and Local Government (FINBiS), held in Toruń from 4 to 6 November under the theme “Regional Problems and Global Challenges: Security, Awareness, Responsibility and Local Self-Government”.

This year’s Czochralski Single Crystal Awards, prestigious distinctions presented by the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region in recognition of outstanding achievements in science, technology and the wider popularisation of knowledge, were awarded to Nova Trading and Vice-Voivode Piotr Hemmerling.

The honorary patrons of this year’s FINBiS include Marshal Piotr Całbecki, President of the Regional Parliament Elżbieta Piniewska, the National Centre for Research and Development and the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Deputy Voivode Piotr Hemmerling received the Czochralski Single Crystal Award in recognition of, among other achievements, his commitment to promoting the life and scientific legacy of Professor Jan Czochralski, the inventor of a method for growing single crystals that became a cornerstone of modern electronics. Today, this method is used to produce 90 per cent of the silicon single crystals that underpin the global high-tech industry.

The award presented to Nova Trading, Poland’s largest distributor of stainless steel and aluminium and a market leader in this sector in Central and Eastern Europe, recognises the company’s bold investment decisions and openness to new technologies.

More information and the FINBiS programme are available on the event website.
