10th Edition of the “Przygrywka” Festival
The 10th jubilee edition of the “Przygrywka” festival is just around the same corner. This nationwide showcase of musical performances has, for years, opened its stage to young artists at the threshold of their professional careers. This year’s program features as many as 15 student performances. The festival is held under the honorary patronage of Marshal Piotr Całbecki. [Festival Program].
“The festival creates a space where young performers present their skills to both the public and the theater community. It is a hub for meetings, discussions, and the exchange of experiences. ‘Przygrywka’ is not just a review of plays; it is a place for building relationships, establishing first professional contacts, and finding artistic impulses that often mark the beginning of a long journey on stage,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
In the last week of May, the “Od Nowa” Club will once again become a meeting point for the most interesting personalities of the young music and theater scene from across the country. This year’s installment will be record-breaking. For the jubilee edition, 20 applications were submitted from art universities and schools all over Poland, from which 15 performances were qualified for the final program. 220 participants from 11 art schools will arrive in Toruń.
This year’s program promises to be exceptionally diverse. Among the presented titles is “Buy Now” (Kup teraz) by the Capitol Musical Studio – an ironic and touching story about consumerism, mass production, and the traps of superficial success. The audience will also see “Shadows – A Script Straight from the Basement” (Cienie – scenariusz prosto z piwnicy) from the Academy of Music in Gdańsk – a performance leading the viewer through realms of fear, memory, and internal tension, captured in a tragicomic, dreamlike form.
Other highlights include “Urban Ballads” (Ballady miejskie) by students of the Łódź Film School, inspired by old street songs, and “Pure Invention” (Czysty wymysł) from the branch of the Theater Academy in Białystok – a poetic evening of actor’s songs built around emotion, memory, and stage intimacy. Students from Kraków will present “Meter by Meter” (Metr na metr), inspired by reportages on Polish prisons, raising questions about guilt, loneliness, shame, and the possibility of understanding another human being. In turn, “Nevermore” from the Academy of Music in Łódź will offer an intimate musical tale of women, secrets, and emotions.
The program will also feature performances based on the works of significant authors such as Stanisław Staszewski and Wojciech Młynarski, popular bands like Maanam, Kult, Lao Che, and Happysad, as well as shows inspired by the repertoire of Nick Cave, Lech Janerka, and Spięty.
To mark the 10th anniversary of the festival, the jury has been expanded and will include: Janusz Grzywacz, Katarzyna Jamróz, Tomasz Lewandowski, Agnieszka Płoszajska, Jerzy Satanowski, and Anna Wołek.
Free admission tickets for individual events can be collected at the box office of the Music Theater at 8 Żeglarska Street in Toruń. The number of seats for each screening is limited. “Przygrywka” will run from May 26 to May 30 at the “Od Nowa” Club at 37a Gagarina Street in Toruń.
The event is co-financed by the Budget of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.
