Regional Development Strategy – Balancing Expectations and Addressing Real Needs
As work intensifies on the revision of the Regional Development Strategy – the region’s key planning document, which also determines how EU funds are invested – Marshal Piotr Całbecki is meeting with local government representatives from Świecie County today (16 October).
“This is another opportunity to listen to local communities and hear about their needs and aspirations. The Regional Development Strategy, whose provisions will directly or indirectly influence development policy in every municipality in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region and affect every one of us, must strike a balance between local expectations and provide answers to real problems, including those at the local level. I look forward to constructive contributions. I am pleased to be working with professional, committed and responsible partners,” emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The overarching development goal adopted by the Regional Executive Board and set out in the strategy’s guiding principles is to improve quality of life based on four pillars of development: social (effective education, human capital, social inclusion and modern public services); economic (sustainable economic development, competitiveness, innovation and the energy transition); environmental (protection of natural resources, clean air, climate change adaptation and quality of living); and functional (development of public transport networks, improved road and rail links with the region’s main cities, the use of integrated territorial approaches and closer cooperation with local authorities).
Responsibility for preparing the revision – formally, a new Regional Development Strategy through 2035 – rests with the Regional Executive Board. This includes drawing up the guiding principles, conducting public consultations and preparing the final draft. Intensive work on the document will continue for several more months, after which an environmental impact assessment report will be prepared and formal public consultations will take place.
Marshal Piotr Całbecki’s programme during today’s visit to Świecie County also includes the opening of the new Social Services Centre premises in Pruszcz and a meeting with village heads in Sulnówko, during which the local leaders will receive village-head insignia. Earlier in the morning, the Marshal met with Dorota Krezymon, Head of Dragacz Municipality, and laid flowers at the monument in Mniszek commemorating the victims of the German genocide carried out in 1939-1940, now referred to as the Pomeranian Crime.
