Milenia Fiedler to Receive Award at ToruńCamerimage 2026

One of Poland’s most distinguished film editors will be honoured at this year’s ToruńCamerimage Festival. Her extensive career includes an important collaboration with Krzysztof Zanussi, including his film Całopalenie.

Milenia Fiedler will receive the Film Editor Award in Toruń. The distinction is presented by the festival organisers to filmmakers who, through editing, “give cinematic images a unique rhythm, meaning and emotional depth.”

– Editing is the art of making decisions – choosing the right perspective, gesture, silence or moment to cut. In Milenia Fiedler’s hands, however, it becomes something more: an invisible structure that allows images to speak, builds tension and guides audiences through the most complex emotions of the characters. Her extraordinary sensitivity, precision and ability to attune herself to the inner rhythm of a story give each film she helps create its own distinctive cinematic language – the ToruńCamerimage organisers explain.

Milenia Fiedler has edited nearly 250 feature films, documentaries, television series and television theatre productions. She has worked with some of the most prominent figures in Polish cinema. Her collaborations with Andrzej Wajda include Katyń, Sweet Rush (Tatarak) and Walesa: Man of Hope, while her work with Janusz Majewski includes The Eccentrics: The Sunny Side of the Street, filmed in Ciechocinek, Nieszawa and Toruń.

Her collaboration with Krzysztof Zanussi also occupies an important place in her career. She worked on the director’s most recent productions: Foreign Body, Ether, The Perfect Number and Całopalenie, the master’s latest film, produced in partnership with our Kujawy Pomorze Film Fund and currently awaiting its official premiere.

Fiedler is a two-time recipient of the Best Editing Award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, recognised for her work on Czas zdrady and Wojciech Marczewski’s Weiser. She also received the Polish Film Award (Eagle) for editing the latter.

Since 2020, she has served as Rector of the Łódź Film School. She is a member of the European Film Academy, the Polish Film Academy and the Polish Association of Editors. In 2023, she served on the jury of the Main Competition at Camerimage.

– We are honoured that Milenia has accepted our invitation and will join us for the 34th edition of the festival to receive her award – the organisers announce.

The 34th ToruńCamerimage International Film Festival will take place from 7 to 14 November 2026.
