Producer of “The Good House” Receives Kujawsko-Pomorskie Marshal’s Award

Film producer Wojciech Gostomczyk received the Marshal’s Award yesterday (29 September) for promoting the region.

The 26th gala ceremony of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Marshal’s Awards was held at the Jordanki Cultural and Congress Centre in Toruń. Piotr Całbecki presented these prestigious awards in 13 categories.

One of the laureates was Wojciech Gostomczyk, who was honoured for promoting our region. Born in Bydgoszcz, he is a film producer and director, co-owner of Studio Métrage and founder of the production company Lucky Bob. Born in 1979, he graduated in directing from the Warsaw Film School. He has worked with some of Poland’s best-known directors, including Wojciech Smarzowski. He was a co-producer of Smarzowski’s Clergy (2018) and producer of The Wedding (2021) and The Good House (2025), which was made in cooperation with our Kujawy Pomorze Film Fund.

Gostomczyk not only produced The Good House, but also made a cameo appearance in the film as a “producer from Bydgoszcz”. Despite its difficult subject matter, domestic violence, the film became a major box-office success, attracting almost 2.5 million viewers to cinemas. It was also highly acclaimed for its artistic merit, winning five Polish Film Awards – the 2026 Eagles, Poland’s equivalent of the Oscars – including all of the major awards. It was named Best Film of the Year, while Smarzowski received the Eagle for Best Director, Agata Turkot and Tomasz Schuchardt won for their leading performances, and Mikołaj Trzaska received the award for Best Film Music.

At the 51st Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia, which concluded over the weekend, Gostomczyk received the Amber Lions, awarded by the Polish Cinema Association to the creators of the Polish film with the highest cinema attendance during a given season.

In July this year, The Good House triumphed in the Polish Films Competition at the Tofifest International Film Festival in Toruń, where the winner was selected by the audience. Gostomczyk also served on the jury of the international On Air Competition.

The Bydgoszcz native has also worked with, among others, Agnieszka Holland and Roman Polański. He was the producer of The Palace, Polański’s most recent film to date. In 2023, he made his directorial and screenwriting debut with the feature-length documentary Leon, which he also produced and which received a Special Jury Award at the Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival.

He describes himself as a local patriot:

“I make films in Bydgoszcz because I have a deep connection to this place. I believe in the potential of our region and want to actively contribute to its development. Instead of following the well-trodden paths of the largest film centres, I prefer to build value and culture here, where my roots and heart are. For me, every production made in our Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region is not only an artistic project, but also an investment in the local community and its future.”
