New Roundabout to Be Built in Grudziądz County

Over the coming years, we will rebuild 23 intersections as part of our programme to eliminate hazardous locations on regional roads. Six projects have already been completed. Three more investments are currently underway – in Żołędowo in Bydgoszcz County, Rzadkwin in Mogilno County and Ośno in Aleksandrów County. A tender is also underway for the construction of a roundabout in Mełno in Grudziądz County.

In Mełno, the roundabout will be built at the intersection of regional roads No. 533 and 538 and county road No. 1402C. The project will also include the construction of pedestrian and cycle paths, pedestrian crossings and bicycle crossings. The intersection will be equipped with lighting and a drainage system, while additional access roads to properties will be created along the roads approaching the roundabout.

The reconstruction will also cover underground infrastructure. A utility duct will be constructed to enable additional installations to be laid in the future without having to interfere with the new road surface. The approaches to the roundabout will be separated by traffic islands. To allow oversized vehicles to pass through, the central island will be divided into a traversable section on the western side and a non-traversable section on the eastern side. The surrounding area will be landscaped with greenery.

The project is part of the Marshal’s programme to improve safety on regional roads, implemented with funding from the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021 – 2027. The works are scheduled for completion in autumn next year.

Further investments

In previous years, we modernized two sections of regional road No. 538 in Grudziądz County:

  • Radzyń – Gruta – 5 km
  • Łasin – region border – 8 km

This year, we also improved pedestrian safety on regional road No. 534 between Grudziądz and Rypin by installing additional lighting at the pedestrian crossings located along the route.

We are preparing further investments on regional roads in this part of the region. We are cooperating with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways to ensure the best possible connection between the regional road network and the planned S5 expressway from Grudziądz towards Ostróda via the interchange in the vicinity of Radzyń Chełmiński.

Rebuilt intersections and new traffic lights

The regional road modernization programme aimed at eliminating hazardous locations, implemented with funding from the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021 – 2027, comprises a total of 23 projects. Six have already been completed (Bysław, Sępólno Krajeńskie, Golub-Dobrzyń, Broniewice, Barcin and Dyblin). Work is currently underway on roundabouts in:

  • Rzadkwin (Mogilno County)
  • Żołędowo (Bydgoszcz County)
  • Ośno (Aleksandrów County)

Record spending on roads

Two billion zlotys will be allocated to the regional road modernization programme over the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021 – 2027 (FEdKiP 2021 – 2027), our regional programme for the new funding period, we are allocating EUR 136 million to road investments, including our regional programme for the construction of bypasses. Additional central-government funding will also be used for some road infrastructure expansion projects (approximately PLN 170 million for bypasses and around PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads).
