Meeting of Regional Assembly Speakers

The Mazowieckie Region hosted the Convention of Speakers of Poland’s Regional Parliaments, held in Warsaw on 16–17 September. The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region was represented by Chair of the Regional Parliament Elżbieta Piniewska. Discussions focused on regional development, local government financing and the energy transition. The Convention adopted an appeal calling for a stronger role for regions in the energy transition process.

The guests were welcomed by Vice Marshal of the Mazowieckie Region Wiesław Raboszuk. The agenda included, among other topics, financing development and the role of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) in funding key investments. The issue was presented by BGK President Mirosław Czekaj.

On the second day of the meeting, representatives of the Regional Parliaments paid tribute to the victims of the Soviet invasion of Poland in September 1939 and to Polish citizens deported by the invaders to forced-labour camps in Siberia. The ceremony was held at the Monument to the Fallen and Murdered in the East, at Matka Sybiraczka Square.

A particularly enjoyable part of the programme was a visit to the headquarters of the State Folk Song and Dance Ensemble Mazowsze, including a performance by its artists.

Chair Elżbieta Piniewska was accompanied in Warsaw by Denis Dembek, Director of the Regional Parliament Office.
