Opera Nova expansion: just months away from completion
The expansion of Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz is one of the most important cultural investments in our region and one of the city’s major development projects. The construction work on Marszałka Focha Street is expected to be completed within the next few months and has attracted considerable interest from local residents and music lovers. Intensive finishing work is currently underway in the new wing of the opera complex, known as the fourth ring.
“If we want to experience artistic events at the highest level, we need cultural venues that meet the required standards. Culture and its creators have always needed generous patrons – that was true in the past, and it remains true today,” stresses Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Opera Nova Director Maciej Figas says: “The so-called fourth ring is a reference to the original architectural concept developed in 1962. The investment currently being carried out complements the long-term project that began in 1973.”
The new four-storey wing will house a chamber opera hall, with an orchestra pit for an ensemble of 70 musicians and seating for 500, as well as an exhibition space and a cinema auditorium. The rotunda, which features a viewing terrace overlooking the Brda River and is currently undergoing finishing and installation works, has a floor area of 6,000 square metres and a volume of 40,000 cubic metres. A much-needed two-level underground car park is also being built on the site and is scheduled for completion later this year. It will provide 212 parking spaces. The total value of the investment is PLN 190 million.
Intensive finishing and installation works have been underway throughout the summer in the new section of the opera complex. These include the installation of electrical, telecommunications and sanitary systems, acoustic wall and ceiling finishes, a loudspeaker system in the cinema auditorium, suspended ceilings, interior finishes, glazing, balustrades and façade elements. Significant progress can already be seen in the future cinema auditorium, where high-quality modern loudspeaker systems are being installed.
