Senior citizens, we’re glad you’re here!

Vice Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska met today (18 September) with participants in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie network of day centres for senior citizens. The meeting took place in the main auditorium of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń as part of a conference for seniors focusing, among other things, on the regional self-government’s senior policy, intergenerational dialogue and online safety.

“Dear seniors, you are the foundation of our country and our region. You are the generation that had to live through exceptionally difficult times and fight for many of the things we now take for granted. That experience made you wise and strong. You created a better and more comfortable world for us. Today, it is our responsibility, as younger generations, to create an environment and a world in which you can feel safe, comfortable and valued,” Vice Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska told the conference participants.

She stressed that senior citizens account for an increasingly large share of the region’s population, currently around 25 percent. She also highlighted the regional network of day centres, which responds well to the needs and expectations of local communities and has become an important and highly valued element of the regional self-government’s senior policy.

The event, held under the slogan “It’s Good to Have You Here”, featured a range of artistic performances, including a recital by Grażyna Rutkowska-Kusa, a finalist on The Voice Senior.

The conference was organised by the Marshal’s Office’s Regional Centre for Sustainable Development, which coordinates the Kujawsko-Pomorskie network of day centres for senior citizens.
