Trains Return to Rypin
From December, ten pairs of trains on weekdays, eight on Saturdays and seven on Sundays will operate on the Brodnica – Rypin route. The Marshal’s Office will pay PLN 13 million for the services, which will be operated by Arriva for the next five years. PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, the company responsible for managing the railway infrastructure, is investing nearly PLN 200 million in the modernization works, which are now nearing completion.
“We are systematically expanding the range of regional rail services in the region. The resumption of passenger services to Rypin after 25 years is another step in implementing the regional self-government’s strategy. Our regional passenger trains are a cheaper and faster alternative to travelling by car. I am convinced that passengers will be keen to take advantage of this service,” Marshal Piotr Całbecki emphasized.
Passengers will be able to use the regional rail services as early as mid-December.
On weekdays, the Rypin – Brodnica route will be served by:
- 10 pairs of trains on weekdays
- 8 pairs of trains on Saturdays
- 7 pairs of trains on Sundays.
Until 2030, the services will be operated by Arriva RP, the operator selected through a tender, at a cost of PLN 13 million.
Two Hundred Million Zlotys
“The return of rail services to Rypin is the result of very good cooperation between the regional self-government, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the railway companies, which are investing nearly PLN 200 million in modernization,” Marshal Piotr Całbecki said.
The launch of regular passenger rail services is preceded by the renovation of the Rypin – Brodnica – Jabłonowo Pomorskie railway lines (lines 33 and 208).
Along the 50-kilometre section of these lines, rails and sleepers are being replaced, engineering structures such as bridges, viaducts and culverts are being repaired, ballast is being replenished and the track is being realigned.
The railway stops in Kretki (Brodnica County) and 17 level crossings are also being modernized. Once the investment is completed, trains will be able to travel along this section at speeds of up to 120 km/h.
The gross value of the works being carried out on this line by the railway company is PLN 141 million.
At the same time, PKP PLK is rebuilding the railway station in Rypin, located on line 33 between Sierpc and Brodnica.
The investment includes:
- construction of a new platform
- modernization of the existing platform
- installation of 13 new sets of points
- laying new tracks
- installation of lighting, shelters and benches
- installation of a passenger information system.
The project, financed under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, is worth PLN 50 million.
As part of the government’s railway station and stop construction programme, PKP PLK is also building a new railway stop, Brodnica Południowa, on 18 Stycznia Street in Brodnica. Passengers will have access to a modern facility equipped with the necessary infrastructure. The construction cost will amount to a further PLN 3.4 million.
PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, which manages the railway infrastructure, will spend a total of PLN 200 million on the renovation works.
Restoring Railway Connections
Since December, the regional self-government has been operating restored rail services from Aleksandrów Kujawski to Ciechocinek, which have proved very popular with passengers.
This year, train services to Kcynia (Nakło County) will also be restored.
The regional self-government currently has a steadily expanding fleet of 33 trains. More units, manufactured by PESA in Bydgoszcz, will enter service next year. The seven trainsets ordered by the regional government will cost PLN 330 million.
The recently announced concept for a national integrated railway network includes plans for new rail connections in our region as well as high-speed rail services.
In 2026, subsidies provided by the regional self-government to the railway operators selected through tenders (Arriva and Polregio) will reach a record PLN 267 million. This amount also includes infrastructure access charges and station fees, which total PLN 37 million.
