New Roundabout Improves Safety in Barcin
Marshal Piotr Całbecki, President of the Regional Parliament Elżbieta Piniewska, Member of the Region Board Dariusz Kurzawa and Member of the Region Board Marek Wojtkowski attended today’s (7 September) official opening of a new roundabout in Barcin (Żnin County). This is another investment completed along the important Region Road No. 254, which connects, among others, Bydgoszcz, Żnin and Mogilno counties.
– The new roundabout not only improves traffic flow, but also increases the safety of everyone using this critical junction. The investment is part of our major programme to modernise voivodeship roads, aimed at eliminating hazardous locations. Thanks to the programme, new roundabouts, pavements and illuminated pedestrian crossings are being built throughout the region – said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The new four-arm roundabout was built at the junction of Pakoska, 4 Stycznia, Polna and Mogileńska streets. Traffic lanes approaching the roundabout are separated by refuge islands with pedestrian crossings and bicycle crossings. New property access points and illuminated pedestrian crossings have also been constructed. The project also included reconstruction of underground infrastructure. The roundabout has been designed to allow oversized vehicles to pass safely. The PLN 6 million project was carried out by the Bydgoszcz-based company Kada-Bis. Funding from the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 programme was used to finance the investment.
The ceremony was also attended by Mayor of Barcin Michał Pęziak and Deputy Mayor Hubert Łukomski.

- Brzoza – Łabiszyn
- Łabiszyn – Barcin
- Barcin – Szczepankowo
- Mogilno – Wiecanowo – Sucharzewo
- Żabno – Wylatowo.
Road investments in Żnin County
In Żnin County, we are also completing the modernisation of a five-kilometre section of Voivodeship Road No. 251 between Murczyn and Młodocin. The investment included resurfacing, reconstruction of culverts, bus bays and road shoulders. The works, worth PLN 8.4 million, were carried out by Inodrog. During the summer, a one-kilometre section of Janickiego Street in Żnin was also renovated along this route.
In spring, we planted 150 sycamore maple trees along a seven-kilometre section of Region Road No. 251 between Krotoszyn and Pakość. In the future, the trees will provide shade both over the modernised road and the new cycle paths built in cooperation with the two municipalities.
We are preparing for the construction of a roundabout in Żnin at the junction of Dworcowa, Mickiewicza and Ogrodowa streets. The proposed solutions have been consulted with the local government. Design work worth nearly PLN 300,000 is currently under way. Once completed, we will apply for a road investment implementation permit.
Barcin Municipality is preparing to build a pedestrian and cycle route between Barcin and Wolice along Region Road No. 254. A road investment implementation permit (ZRID) was issued in spring. We have also signed an agreement to co-finance the project with funding from the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 programme.
Record spending on roads
PLN 2 billion will be allocated to the voivodeship road modernisation programme in the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 (FEdKiP 2021–2027), our regional programme for the new financial perspective, we are allocating EUR 136 million to road investments, including, among others, our regional bypass construction programme. We will also use central government funding secured for some road infrastructure projects – around PLN 170 million for bypasses and approximately PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads.
