Film Fund: Queen of Polish TV Series to Talk About Her New Book in Toruń and Chełmno

The action of Ilona Łepkowska’s third novel, Szkoła uczuć (School of Feelings), is set in Chełmno. The publication of the book is supported by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region Government.

This week, readers will have the opportunity to meet Łepkowska, often referred to as the “First Lady of Polish TV Series”, at the Copernican Library in Toruń and at the auditorium of General Education School Complex No. 1 in Chełmno.

– Ilona Łepkowska will talk about writing for film and television, about characters loved by audiences, the behind-the-scenes stories of popular productions, as well as changing audience tastes and the state of Polish popular culture. There will also be anecdotes, memories and a look behind the scenes at the world we know from the screen – the organisers encourage.

Łepkowska will give audiences in our region a special pre-release presentation of her latest novel, Szkoła uczuć, which is set in Chełmno. The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship Government is a partner in the publication of the book. Copies will be available for purchase at both meetings. The event is also supported by our Kujawy Pomorze Film Fund.

Łepkowska previously wrote the novels Pani mnie z kimś pomyliła (2016) and Idealna rodzina (2020). The latter was adapted into the film Zołza, for which she was both screenwriter and co-producer.

Łepkowska has written scripts for iconic television series that attracted audiences of several million viewers, including Klan, Na dobre i na złe, M jak miłość and Barwy szczęścia, as well as popular films such as Och, Karol, Och, Karol 2, Nigdy w życiu!, Kogel-mogel, Galimatias, czyli kogel-mogel II and Komedia małżeńska. She is a member of the Polish Film Academy, honorary chair of the Polish Screenwriters’ Guild and a member of the Council of the Polish Film Institute.

The meeting at the Copernican Library in Toruń, at Słowackiego Street, will take place on Thursday (3 September) and will be hosted by Magdalena Witkiewicz. It begins at 6 p.m. The following day, the screenwriter will visit Chełmno, where the conversation will be hosted by Sylwia Jarmołkiewicz. The meeting begins at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of General Education School Complex No. 1. Admission is free.
