A ceremony marking Polish Aviation Day was held in Bydgoszcz on Friday (28 August) at the Aviators’ Monument in the Square named after the 16th Wielkopolska Uhlan Regiment. The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Regional Self-Government was represented by Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski.
“On your special day, I would like, on behalf of the regional government and the people of our region, to thank you for your commitment, courage and dedication in carrying out your service in the skies. I would like to thank not only military and civil aviation personnel and their ground crews for their dedication, but also employees of the aviation industry, because we should remember that today is a celebration of the entire aviation community. To everyone who works with wings, I extend my heartfelt thanks and best wishes – for safe flights, keen eyes and pride in your service,” Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski said during the ceremony.
Established in 1993, Polish Aviation Day is celebrated on 28 August, commemorating the victory of pilot Captain Franciszek Żwirko and pilot-engineer Stanisław Wigura in the 1932 international Challenge touring aircraft competition.
