Year of Cinema People: DKF “Pałac Sicienko” Programme

A film screening does not have to end when the credits roll. In fact, that may be when the most interesting part of the evening begins – a conversation about the emotions the film evokes and its characters. The format of a film club is simple: a shared screening followed by discussion and an exchange of views. This is how the “Pałac Sicienko” Film Discussion Club operates at the Sicienko Cultural Centre, inviting local residents to regular film evenings in the historic interiors of the palace at 11 Bydgoska Street. The programme of meetings through the end of 2026 has now been announced.

The venue itself is also significant. “Pałac Sicienko” makes use of the potential of this historic building, which regained its representative character following restoration. Together with the surrounding park, it has become an important space for meetings and social and cultural activities for residents of the municipality.

The film club’s programme shows that it is not confined to a single genre or cinematic style. The titles presented include films by acclaimed European directors as well as productions addressing socially, historically and culturally significant themes. The DKF repertoire can appeal both to fans of arthouse cinema and to viewers who simply want to see a good film and then discuss it. There is no need to travel to a large city to take part in an event devoted to ambitious cinema. Audiences in Sicienko and the surrounding area have the opportunity to regularly engage with films that can inspire reflection and discussion.

The first post-summer meeting is scheduled for 11 September at 7 p.m. As part of the European Heritage Days, the Hungarian film My Mother and Other Loons in the Family, directed by Ibolya Fekete, will be screened.
