Americans Celebrate Their Independence Day

On the 250th anniversary of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence, Marshal Piotr Całbecki held a ceremonial meeting in Toruń with US soldiers stationed in our region.

Some dates in world history do not belong to just one nation or one continent. They become the shared heritage of all free humanity. Without doubt, 4 July 1776 is one such date. Today, we stand together to celebrate the birth of an idea that changed the course of history. This American spark ignited the flame of democracy across the globe. The contemporary Polish-American partnership has an especially important dimension in our region: the presence of United States Army soldiers on the land of Kujawy and Pomerania. In these troubled times, this presence is a symbol of security for us,” Marshal Piotr Całbecki said in his address.

The ceremony was attended by soldiers of the US Army’s 1st Field Artillery Brigade “Red Team,” led by its commander, Col. Patrick Kaine, as well as soldiers of the Toruń Garrison. A symbolic highlight was the exchange of flags: the head of the voivodeship presented the Polish flag to the American commander and received the United States flag from Col. Patrick Kaine.
