Next-Generation Life-Saving Wristbands for the Region’s Centenarians

On Friday (26 June), Marshal Piotr Całbecki met with four centenarian residents of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region who participate in the Regional Kujawsko-Pomorskie Telecare Programme. The initiative is based on so-called life-saving wristbands – mobile devices that monitor vital signs and enable users to summon assistance in an emergency. The seniors received the latest-generation devices after first learning about their functions with the support of staff from the Regional Centre for Social Policy.

“We launched the programme for the first time in 2024. We are now replacing the wristbands with newer models while also welcoming new participants. Today’s meeting is symbolic. We work closely with local municipalities on both the replacement of the devices and the expansion of the programme, and it is the municipalities that ultimately distribute the wristbands to seniors. Telecare services are coordinated by our dispatch centre in Toruń, which activates emergency response procedures whenever necessary. In many cases, we have saved the lives of those in our care,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki before the meeting.

The guests at the Marshal’s Office were Kunegunda Gajewska from Kruszyn, Marianna Twaróg from Bydgoszcz, Marianna Piotrowska from Ciechocinek, and Stanisław Guliński from Toruń.

The regional self-government is the lead partner in the programme. Other partners include 91 municipal and local governments, Nicolaus Copernicus University, the Regional Ambulance Service, and the Ekspert-Kujawy Foundation based in Inowrocław.

The programme currently serves 3,500 participants. The monitoring and dispatch centre, located in Toruń, is staffed by professional paramedics who provide round-the-clock support.
