25 Years of Tradition, Innovation and Care for the Future of Agriculture

On 11 June, the family farm in Kowróz, Łysomice Municipality, celebrates the 25th anniversary of its operation. Over the past quarter-century, it has become a symbol of modern, responsible agriculture, successfully combining tradition with innovation and cooperation with the scientific community.

“Kujawsko-Pomorskie is one of the most agricultural regions in Poland and a good example of how to build a modern food security system based on strong family farms, local producers, cooperation with science and the responsible use of innovation,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

Since its establishment, the farm has consistently expanded its operations, investing in modern solutions while preserving the values that have formed the foundation of the Polish countryside for generations. Today, it is not only an important agricultural producer but also a centre for education and the exchange of experience. For many years, agricultural students have completed internships and field classes here, gaining practical insight into modern cultivation methods, production management and the challenges facing contemporary agriculture.

In June 2023, the farm hosted members of the Commission for Natural Resources (NAT) of the European Committee of the Regions, chaired by Marshal Piotr Całbecki. Participants in the study visit learned about the operation of a modern family farm and discussed the challenges facing Polish and European food producers with agricultural students.

During meetings of the Regional Social Dialogue Council in 2024, it was also stressed that effective agricultural policy reforms require ongoing cooperation and the inclusion of farmers’ voices in decision-making processes.

The “Nasze Lokalne” (“Our Local”) project is an initiative based on the concept of short food supply chains, enabling products from local farmers and producers to reach consumers directly. This solution supports regional producers, shortens the journey of food “from farm to table” and strengthens ties between residents and local agriculture. Products available through the naszelokalne.pl platform are also used in the menu of Restauracja Stodoła, where they form the basis of the dishes served, and some products can also be purchased on site.

International cooperation is another important element of the regional self-government’s activities. As part of the Interreg Europe FISSH (Food Innovation for Sustainable System Health) project, the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region shares its experience with partners from other European regions in developing short food supply chains (naszelokalne.pl), supporting local producers and strengthening relationships between farmers and consumers.

For many years, we have supported and promoted farmers who successfully combine tradition with modernity. Recognition of their achievements is reflected in the “Agricola – Son of the Soil” competition, which honours farmers who achieve outstanding production, organisational and social results.
