Concert of Jacek Kaczmarski’s Songs on the 37th Anniversary of the 4 June 1989 Elections
This year marks the 37th anniversary of Poland’s first partially free parliamentary elections after World War II. To commemorate this occasion, we invite residents and visitors to attend the concert “Kaczmarski and His Europe” on 7 June. Admission is free.
The concert will take place on Sunday, 7 June, in Toruń, at the outdoor piano on 4 June 1989 Square. The event begins at 5:00 p.m. The performing duo will be Przemysław Grudziński (guitar, vocals) and Artur Kępka (piano, vocals).
The musicians will perform songs by Jacek Kaczmarski, whose works explore universal themes of the struggle for freedom and the dilemmas that accompany people on the often difficult path toward democracy. Presented within a broader European context, the programme will refer both to historical events and to contemporary questions about identity and the foundations of Europe.
Today (Wednesday, 3 June), on the eve of the anniversary of the June 1989 elections, flowers were laid beneath a plaque dedicated to the people of the Solidarity Movement of the Toruń Region. The plaque is located on the facade of the building at 37 Piekary Street in Toruń.
A commemorative educational session for young people was also held. Around one hundred students from Toruń secondary schools met with former Solidarity activists, including Jan Wyrowiński. The meeting was moderated by Dr. Wojciech Peszyński of Nicolaus Copernicus University. The regional government was represented by Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski.
The events are organised by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region and the City of Toruń.
