Stanisław Rakowicz Has Passed Away

At the age of 91, Stanisław Rakowicz, an outstanding manager, entrepreneur, and economic activist from Toruń who made significant contributions to the region, has passed away. Honour to his memory.

He became known for his modern approach to management even before 1989. He managed, among others, Elana – at the time the largest industrial enterprise in the region – and co-created the Youth Housing Cooperative in Toruń. In the early 1980s, he founded a private company employing around 2,000 people. Between 1988 and 1990, he served as Governor of the Toruń Voivodeship and later adapted successfully to the entrepreneurial climate of the 1990s. In 1990, he became the first owner of a car dealership in Toruń.

During the 1990s, he was also involved in building the structures of Poland’s economic self-government. Between 2001 and 2005, he served as Vice-Chairman of the Council of the Polish Chamber of Commerce. As an academic teacher, he shared his knowledge and experience with successive generations of business managers and entrepreneurs.

He established the Honorary Consulate of Peru in Toruń and served as Honorary Consul of Peru for 25 years. For his contribution to strengthening Polish – Peruvian international relations, he was awarded the Order of José Gregorio Paz Soldán for Meritorious Service in Diplomacy by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was a man of dialogue, a community-minded individual working with care for the public good. He was never indifferent to the fate of the voivodeship and the country. We will remember him as a kind, open person devoted to people’s affairs. (…) May he rest in peace,” wrote Marshal Piotr Całbecki on his social media account.
