Construction of the roundabout in Barcin on Regional Road No. 254 in Żnin County is ongoing. The project is part of the regional government’s program to redevelop hazardous road locations.

The investment is being carried out at the intersection of Pakoska, 4 Stycznia, Polna and Mogileńska streets. A four-leg roundabout is being built in place of the current intersection with broken right-of-way. Traffic lanes approaching the roundabout will be separated by traffic islands with pedestrian crossings and bicycle crossings. Access roads to properties and illuminated crossings are also being constructed. The project has additionally included reconstruction of underground infrastructure. The roundabout is also designed to accommodate oversized vehicles.

The physical progress of the works has already reached 70 percent. In recent days, the contractor began reconstruction of the eastern section of Mogileńska Street. Earlier, a number of additional works related to underground utilities reconstruction were completed. Completion of the entire investment and final inspections are planned for the turn of June and July.

The project, worth PLN 6 million, is part of the regional road modernization program aimed at eliminating dangerous locations. The investment is co-financed with European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie for 2021–2027.

The entire regional road modernization program to eliminate hazardous locations includes a total of 23 projects. Five projects have already been completed (in Sępólno Krajeńskie, Bysław, Golub-Dobrzyń, Dyblin and Broniewice). Construction of a roundabout in Żołędowo is currently underway. The contractor selection process is also in progress for the construction of a roundabout in Rzadkwin.

Further investments

In Żnin County, preparations are also underway for further stages of modernization of Rel Road No. 251. A contract for renovation of a five-kilometer section between the villages of Murczyn and Młodocin is expected to be signed soon. The project will include resurfacing, reconstruction of culverts, bus bays and road shoulders. In the tender procedure, the most advantageous offer was submitted by Inodrog, which valued the works at PLN 8.4 million and offered a long five-year warranty.

Preparations are also underway for construction of a roundabout in Żnin at the intersection of Dworcowa, Mickiewicza and Ogrodowa streets. The proposed solutions have been consulted with the local government. Design works worth nearly PLN 300,000 are currently in progress. After their completion, an application for a road construction permit will be submitted.

Tree planting is also ongoing along a seven-kilometer section of Regional Road No. 251 between Krotoszyn and Pakość. A total of 150 sycamore maple trees will provide shade not only for the modernized roadway, but also for the new bicycle paths built in cooperation with both municipalities.

The Municipality of Barcin is also preparing for construction of the Barcin–Wolice pedestrian and bicycle route along Regional Road No. 254. A road investment permit (ZRID) was issued in spring. An agreement has also been signed to co-finance the project with European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie for 2021–2027.

In recent years, among the projects completed in Żnin County were the comprehensive reconstructions of:

• Regional Road No. 251 between Młodocin and Pturek
• Regional Road No. 254 between Barcin and Łabiszyn

Record spending on roads

PLN 2 billion will be allocated to the regional road modernization program in the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027 (EFKP 2021–2027), the region’s new regional development program, EUR 136 million is earmarked for road investments, including the regional bypass construction program. Additional central government funding will also be used for selected road infrastructure expansion projects (approximately PLN 170 million for bypasses and around PLN 450 million for expansion of other roads).
