The new Mental Health Center in Bydgoszcz will implement the principles of community-based psychiatry
The offer of the Marshal’s Regional Mental Health Clinic in Bydgoszcz will soon be expanded to include a day psychiatric ward and a community care segment operating within a new Mental Health Center. For this purpose, a new two-storey building will be constructed. The contract with the contractor, the regional company Dolmar, has just been signed.
As emphasized by Marshal Piotr Całbecki, mental health disorders affect approximately one in four people globally during their lifetime. Modern psychiatric care is therefore one of the key challenges of contemporary healthcare. In line with current medical knowledge and standards, the system is shifting away from hospital-based, isolation-oriented treatment toward community psychiatry. This model ensures continuity and stability of care, which translates into greater effectiveness.
The new pavilion of the Mental Health Center in Bydgoszcz will be built at Sułkowskiego Street, directly adjacent to the existing clinic building. It will have 2,300 m² of usable floor space and a cubic volume of 9,000 m³.
The second floor will house the day psychiatric ward, which will be able to serve up to 20 patients at a time, as well as psychological outpatient services and therapeutic rooms for community-based treatment. Psychiatrists will receive patients on the first floor, while the ground floor will include, among other facilities, an EMG/EEG diagnostic laboratory (electroencephalography and electromyography – key neurological diagnostic tests).
The investment will be supported by the regional development company Kujawsko-Pomorskie Inwestycje Medyczne. The contractor is Dolmar, a company based in the region. The contract value amounts to PLN 16.6 million and is financed through the EU program European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie as well as the clinic’s own resources.
The building is expected to be completed within 16 months from the moment construction work begins.
