“By bowing our heads, we pay tribute to the Victims”
Commemorations of the Victims of the Katyn Massacre Remembrance Day took place yesterday and today (April 12 and 13) in Bydgoszcz and Toruń. The regional self-government was represented by Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski and Secretary of the Region Marek Smoczyk.
“For decades, attempts were made to falsify this crime. The victims, whose lives were taken, were also to be stripped of memory. But memory cannot be destroyed so easily. It survived in the hearts of families, in testimonies, in culture, and in our shared responsibility. It endured thanks to the people who stood guard over it,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “By bowing our heads, we pay tribute to the Victims. We restore their names, faces, and place in our history. And we pledge that we will never forget them. Honor to their memory!”
The speech of the Marshal of the Region was read during today’s ceremonies in Toruń by the Secretary of the Region, Marek Smoczyk.
