On the Trail of the Constellations: a cinematic journey through Kujawy and Pomorze

In Toruń, the boat featured in the cult classic Rejs (The Cruise) was once moored; Bydgoszcz served as a filming location for the popular TV series Czterej pancerni i pies (Four Tank-Men and a Dog); the epic production Ogniem i mieczem (With Fire and Sword) was filmed in Biskupin; and Ciechocinek provided the setting for the swinging Excentrycy (The Eccentrics). Visit places connected with the history of Polish cinema and win attractive prizes.

The competition organised by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Tourism Organisation shows that cinema can be an excellent guide to the region. This year’s edition of “On the Trail of the Constellations” has been prepared as part of the Year of Film People from Kujawy and Pomorze, established by the regional assembly. It is an invitation both to cinema enthusiasts and to tourists looking for ideas for their summer travels.

A special map features 16 locations across the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region. Each has its own cinematic story. Some served as film sets, while others are associated with people who have made their mark on Polish and international cinema. The route leads through, among others, Biskupin, Bydgoszcz, Chełmno, Ciechocinek, Kruszwica, Toruń, Włocławek and Żnin.

The rules of the competition are simple: participants must visit the locations marked on the map and collect commemorative stamps there. There is no need to complete the entire cinematic route – visiting eight of the 16 locations is enough. This allows everyone to create their own itinerary through Gothic towns, palaces, open-air museums and spa resorts, while discovering locations that have inspired filmmakers or appeared on screen.

The final competition task is an invitation to look at our region through the eyes of a screenwriter or director. Participants are asked to prepare a short description – no more than 1,800 characters – of their own idea for a film that could be made in Kujawy and Pomorze and reach the big screen. It is worth making the effort, as attractive prizes await the authors of the most interesting entries. The main prize is a GoPro Hero 13 camera, while other prizes include a Poco X8 Pro Iron Man Edition smartphone, an electric scooter and vouchers for stays at tourist facilities across the region.

The competition runs until 31 October. Detailed information, a list of locations with maps and stamps, and the competition rules are available at kujawsko-pomorskie.travel.
