Film in Kujawy and Pomorze: Artus Short Film Festival Coming in October

The third edition of the Artus Short Film Festival will take place from 8 to 10 October at the Artus Court Cultural Centre in Toruń. The programme includes film screenings, meetings with filmmakers, workshops and educational activities. The event is supported and sponsored by the regional self-government of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.

The festival is dedicated to short films which, as the organisers emphasise, thanks to their dynamic form and artistic freedom, allow filmmakers to explore important issues, experiment with cinematic language and develop their own distinctive voices.

The opening programme will feature films produced in partnership with the Kujawy and Pomorze Film Fund. Sebastian Kwidziński will present Mother, which has received recognition at festivals around the world. The film tells the story of a woman who is released from prison after serving a six-year sentence for killing her husband. She returns to her hometown hoping to rebuild her relationship with her teenage son. Marianna Korman will present her 2022 film uRodziny, the story of a dancer forced to give up her passion and care for her young daughter, who has Rett syndrome. The screenings will be followed by meetings with the directors.

The Warsaw Film School is a partner of this year’s festival, and audiences will have the opportunity to see a special programme featuring the school’s best productions of the year. An educational series entitled “One, Two, Three! The School Film Archive Is Watching!” has been prepared for pupils in grades 1–3 in cooperation with the National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute.

“This year’s programme is aimed both at younger audiences and at film lovers who want to take a look behind the scenes of filmmaking,” the organisers say. “Alongside the screenings, workshops, meetings with filmmakers and educational activities are an integral part of the festival.”
