Cinematic Kujawsko-Pomorskie: Special Preview Screening of a Film About Jan Czochralski
“The Czochralski Era” is the title of a new documentary dedicated to the chemist and metallurgist born in Kcynia. The film will be screened on the 141st anniversary of the brilliant scientist’s birth.
To mark the occasion, the authorities of Kcynia are organising a commemorative event entitled “Czochralski for the Future – the Future for Czochralski” on Friday (23 October), held under the patronage of Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region Piotr Całbecki.
The sports hall at 1 Pobożnego Street will host a special preview screening of “The Czochralski Era”, followed by a panel discussion. Participants will include Professor Bogusław Buszewski, founder and director of the International Institute of Analytical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Toruń; Marek Szymaniak, director of the Gdańsk branch of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN); and Dariusz Grzeszczyk, the film’s director and producer.
The documentary “The Czochralski Era” carries the subtitle “A Sensational Story of the Achievements and Inventions of the Distinguished Polish Scientist Jan Czochralski”.
“It is a fascinating documentary drama that introduces audiences to one of Poland’s most outstanding, yet long underappreciated, scientists. The production reveals the life and work of a visionary whose method of growing silicon single crystals revolutionised the world of electronics and laid the foundations for modern technologies – from computers and mobile phones to satellites,” reads the film’s description.
Admission to the event is by ticket only, although tickets are free of charge and can be collected from the Municipal Office in Kcynia. The event begins on Friday at 11 a.m.
It is worth recalling that two documentaries dedicated to Czochralski – the Polish scientist whose work is the most frequently cited in scientific publications worldwide – were previously produced with the support of the Toruń Regional Development Agency. The films “The Chemist’s Return” and “Jan Czochralski: The Forefather of Electronics” were screened, among other occasions, at last year’s Camerimage Festival in Toruń.
Czochralski is also one of the figures featured in a series of comic books published by the Marshal’s Office, introducing outstanding personalities associated with our region. The publication “Jan Czochralski – The Man Who Changed the World” is also available online.
