Agata Turkot Named Poland’s Most Inspiring Actress
At the festival in Gdynia, she received a Pulsar Award from her fellow industry professionals for her performance in Good Home, a film produced in partnership with the Kujawy and Pomorze Film Fund.
The Pulsar Awards are prestigious distinctions, as they are voted for by fellow actors who are members of the Polish Actors’ Trade Union. The inaugural awards were presented last year during the 50th anniversary edition of the Polish Film Festival. On Tuesday, 22 September, the awards honouring the most inspiring actors and casting directors were presented in Gdynia for the second time. More than 1,800 members of the Polish Actors’ Trade Union took part in the vote.
Agata Turkot was named Poland’s most inspiring actress for her portrayal of Gośka, a victim of domestic violence, in Wojciech Smarzowski’s Good Home, produced in partnership with the Kujawy and Pomorze Film Fund. The jury’s citation praised her “moving and authentic performance, which portrays the tragedy of domestic violence – from helplessness and vulnerability to the emergence of the strength to fight for oneself. For extraordinary naturalness that makes us forget we are watching an acting performance and allows us to become completely immersed in the story of the character.”
It is worth recalling that Good Home triumphed in the Polish film competition at this year’s Tofifest International Film Festival in Toruń. Despite its difficult subject matter, the film became a major box-office hit, attracting nearly 2.5 million cinema-goers. It was also recognised for its artistic achievements, winning five Polish Film Awards – Eagles 2026, including all the major awards: it was named Best Film of the Year, while Wojciech Smarzowski received the Eagle for Best Director, Agata Turkot and Tomasz Schuchardt for their leading performances, and Mikołaj Trzaska for the music.
The Pulsar is another distinction for Agata Turkot for her bold performance in Good Home. Earlier this year, she received the Zbigniew Cybulski Award, presented to talented young actors. She was subsequently named Best Actress by the jury of the Polish Film Festival in Washington, and at Tofifest she received the Golden Angel for European Actress – Bella Woman.
Turkot graduated from the Acting Department of the Łódź Film School in 2018. Her credits include roles in the television series Na noże, Leśniczówka and Na dobre i na złe, as well as the films Wesele 2, Poskromienie złośnicy 2, czyli wiele hałasu o nic and Przysięga Ireny. In 2026, she played one of the leading roles in the acclaimed series Piekło kobiet, further establishing her position as one of the most compelling actresses of the younger generation in Poland.
Last year, the first Pulsar Awards included another actor from the region among the winners. Łukasz Simlat received the award in the Most Inspiring Actor on Screen category for his portrayal of Marcin in Michał Grzybowski’s Seasons, produced in cooperation with the Kujawy and Pomorze Film Fund. For the same performance, he also received the Pola Negri Marshal’s Film Award of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region in July this year.
