Włocławek Specialist Hospital: Construction of New Complex Nears Completion
Marshal Piotr Całbecki inspected the construction site of the new complex of the Provincial Specialist Hospital in Włocławek on Wednesday (23 September), where finishing and installation works are currently underway. Construction is progressing rapidly, with the project now 70 percent complete. The works are scheduled to be completed next year.
“We are building a modern hospital designed to meet the needs of this part of the region. The next stage of the investment will involve purchasing the necessary equipment. I am confident that a modern, well-equipped workplace will attract outstanding specialists from across Poland to Włocławek – doctors and nurses who will want to work here in good conditions and to European standards. In my view, this means the hospital’s staffing problems will come to an end,” the Marshal said during a meeting with journalists.
The new five-storey main hospital building – the future heart of the facility – will house the admissions department and emergency department, a main operating suite with seven operating theatres, a maternity unit, an intensive care unit, inpatient wards and an endoscopy unit, as well as a hospital pharmacy and sterilisation department. In line with current standards, the building will also feature a helipad platform for air ambulance services.
Preparations are also well advanced for the construction of a six-storey car park with 472 spaces on the hospital grounds. The project is being overseen by Kujawsko-Pomorskie Inwestycje Medyczne, a special-purpose company established by the regional self-government. The facility will include, among other things, charging stations for electric vehicles. By the end of the year, KPIM is expected to obtain all the documents required to launch a tender for the project under a design-and-build contract. The first cars are expected to park there in the second quarter of 2028.
The Włocławek Provincial Specialist Hospital treats around 28,000 patients a year. Its emergency department sees approximately 67,000 people annually, while hospital outpatient clinics provide care to around 100,000 patients. The clinics providing out-of-hours primary healthcare services receive approximately 27,000 patients each year.
The hospital, which employs 1,500 people, completed the largest medical modernisation project in its history this summer, worth PLN 50 million. The investment included the purchase of around 250 items of advanced medical equipment, including a surgical robot and a specialised robotic system for neurosurgical procedures. Surgeons in Włocławek have already performed 40 operations using the former, while six procedures have been carried out with the Mazor X, an advanced robotic system designed for complex neurosurgical procedures. The hospital is also equipped with a rehabilitation robot that supports patients during physiotherapy.
During his visit, Marshal Piotr Całbecki also met with the hospital’s Social Council and staff. The discussions focused, among other things, on further investment projects. The Marshal announced that the regional self-government plans to build a shelter within the hospital complex, ensuring that the facility can continue to operate in emergency situations.
