Watch the Perseids with Us! | Województwo Kujawsko-Pomorskie

Tomorrow (25 July), Rypin will become the astronomical capital of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region as we launch the “Observing the Perseids at the Astrobases” series. Residents of the region, visitors and everyone fascinated by the night sky are invited to discover the wonders of the cosmos together. Free observation sessions, astronomy shows and educational events dedicated to one of the most spectacular summer sky phenomena—the Perseid meteor shower—will take place at all 14 Copernicus Astrobases and at Bierzgłowski Castle.

“I am delighted that so many young people are passionate about astronomy and, under the guidance of dedicated teachers, observe distant star systems while continuing our region’s rich astronomical traditions. I warmly invite everyone to take part in these events,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

Each Astrobaza has prepared its own programme, ensuring that participants across different parts of the region can enjoy a wide variety of attractions. These include:

telescope observations of the night sky,
astronomy demonstrations,
meetings with astronomy enthusiasts and Astrobaza coordinators,
educational workshops for children and adults,
popular science lectures,
and numerous activities introducing participants to the fascinating world of astronomy.

For many years, the regional self-government has consistently supported the development of the Copernicus Astrobaza Network, financing both the modernisation and equipment of the facilities as well as educational activities. Thanks to this support, the observatories are equipped with modern observational instruments, teacher training courses are organised, astronomy picnics are held, and science outreach programmes are delivered.

The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Centre for Education and Innovation currently also finances the work of Astrobaza coordinators, who conduct educational activities for primary and secondary school students, as well as for anyone interested in astronomy.

The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Astrobaza Network was established fifteen years ago as part of a project initiated by the Marshal of the Region and co-financed by the European Union under the Regional Operational Programme for the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region 2007–2013.

Most recently, Marshal Piotr Całbecki visited the Copernicus Astrobaza in Gostycyn, one of the facilities successfully promoting astronomy and science education among the region’s residents.
