Volunteer Fire Brigade Station in Dąbrowa Chełmińska Modernised
Volunteer firefighters from Dąbrowa Chełmińska in Bydgoszcz County are already using their thoroughly modernised headquarters and have also received a new operational vehicle. This is part of a broad programme aimed at supporting rescue services in our region. Marshal Piotr Całbecki attended Saturday’s (5 September) ceremony.
– We support the development of infrastructure for both Volunteer Fire Brigade units and State Fire Service units in the region. At present, around one hundred such projects are being carried out with our support – said Marshal Piotr Całbecki. – For years, we have also been providing firefighters with equipment – ranging from smaller items to heavy firefighting vehicles. We have already provided units with more than one hundred such vehicles, and more are being delivered to firefighters to improve the safety of both residents and the firefighters themselves. I am pleased that we can support firefighters, including volunteers – the remarkable women and men who for decades have formed a community serving society and standing in solidarity with those in need. Particularly in these difficult and uncertain times, we should strengthen this extremely important service.
– Our colleagues from other regions envy us the support we receive from the regional government – said Jarosław Herbowski, President of the Regional Board of the Association of Volunteer Fire Brigades of the Republic of Poland in Toruń. – Without a shadow of a doubt, our region has some of the best-equipped Volunteer Fire Brigade units in Poland.
The works included the construction of new garage bays and the modernisation of the existing garages, including reconstruction of the roof structure, renovation of the façade and raising of the floor level. The investment cost more than PLN 700,000, of which nearly PLN 400,000 came from the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze (FEdKP) 2021–2027 programme.
The regional government consistently prioritises safety. Under the current financial perspective, nearly PLN 20 million has been allocated to premises and infrastructure for Volunteer Fire Brigade units alone. Thanks to these funds, fire stations throughout the region are being modernised and expanded, while new garages and welfare facilities are being built.
The next call for applications for support for rescue services is open until 30 October.
Support for fire services – both the State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Brigades – also includes investment in modern equipment. The scale of purchases financed from the new FEdKP funds is considerable – the total value of projects aimed at equipping rescue services exceeds PLN 59 million. Equipment purchased includes:
- 29 rescue and firefighting vehicles, 11 specialised vehicles for transporting rescuers, 11 multi-purpose off-road vehicles and 5 specialised vehicles for operations at height,
- modern operational drones,
- specialised rescue boats, trailers and motor pumps,
- advanced hydraulic rescue tools essential for rescuing victims of road accidents.
Under our Regional Operational Programme for the previous financial perspective (ROP 2014–2020), we equipped Volunteer Fire Brigade units with 83 rescue and firefighting vehicles. Volunteer firefighters also received several hundred pieces of equipment necessary for carrying out rescue operations.
