Tree-lined avenues along more regional roads
We are continuing the Marshal’s programme to restore roadside tree-lined avenues. Today (4 September), we signed a contract for planting trees along more regional roads in Tuchola, Świecie, Brodnica, Toruń and Rypin counties. In total, nearly 800 mature trees and 1,400 shrubs will be planted. The works, worth PLN 1.5 million, will be carried out by Henryk Hinca’s Nursery Farm from Dobrzyca.
– We are restoring green roadside avenues to compensate for losses in the ecosystem caused by various investment projects. Trees provide natural environmental protection – they shield against wind and erosion, provide shelter for birds and insects, and help maintain soil fertility, says Marshal Piotr Całbecki. – We want to see more and more green avenues along regional roads. We are allocating a total of PLN 18 million for this purpose.
The contracts were signed by Przemysław Dąbrowski, Director of the Regional Roads Authority, and Marcin Hinca of the Nursery Farm in Dobrzyca. Sebastian Chojnacki, Deputy Mayor of the Łubianka Commune, also attended the meeting.
The project includes, among other things, site preparation, delivery of large saplings (at a height of 1.3 metres, the trees must have a trunk circumference of at least 20 centimetres), planting, maintenance (fertilising and watering), and the construction of retention basins around the trees. The project will be financed with funding from the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027.
Along regional road no. 240 in Tuchola and Świecie counties, we will plant 196 linden trees, 108 maples and 47 rowan trees. New trees will appear, among other places, in the communes of Kęsowo, Tuchola, Lubiewo (along the Płazowo bypass) and Bukowiec.
Along regional road no. 543 in Brodnica County, we will plant 63 linden trees and 22 rowan trees. The trees will be planted along the section between Jabłonowo Pomorskie and Grzybno. Later this year, we will also complete the reconstruction of a section of this route between Mileszewy and Wichulec.
New plantings are also planned along regional road no. 553 in Toruń County. In the gaps between Dębiny and Różankowo, we will plant 239 linden trees and 42 hawthorns. A series of green belts will be planted with 1,380 shrubs, including sea buckthorn, Russian olive, Eurasian smoketree, mock orange, Tatarian honeysuckle and rugosa rose. The new plantings will complement the road renovation currently under way between Różankowo and Łubianka.
Regional road no. 557 in the Rypin Commune, on the section from the town boundary to Balin, will also become greener. Seventy linden trees are planned there. This year, we are also renovating the Stary Kobrzyniec–Nadróż and Makówiec–Janiszewo sections of this route.
Travelling in the shade of trees
By the end of the year, more than 2,220 mature trees will have been planted along regional roads. The programme initiated by the Marshal in recent years has made it possible to restore roadside plantings along many reconstructed sections of regional roads, including:
- regional road no. 553 Toruń–Wybcz (Toruń County)
- regional road no. 266 Ciechocinek–Zakrzewo (Aleksandrów County)
- regional road no. 551 in Raciniewo (Chełmno County)
- regional road no. 251 Barcin–Pakość (Inowrocław and Żnin counties)
- regional road no. 550 – the Chełmno bypass (Chełmno County)
Record spending on roads
PLN 2 billion will be allocated to the regional road modernisation programme over the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 (FEdKP 2021–2027), our regional programme for the new EU financial perspective, we are allocating EUR 136 million to road investments, including our regional bypass construction programme. We will also use central government funding secured for some road infrastructure expansion projects – approximately PLN 170 million for bypasses and around PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads.
