Talks on the Economy, Technological Expansion, and the Culture of Asian Countries

The 13th International Asian Congress is currently taking place in Toruń. The event serves as a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on the role of Asia in the contemporary international system and the influence of Asian countries on global political, economic, and social processes. The ceremonial opening of the congress was attended by Vice-Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region Zbigniew Ostrowski, who also welcomed H.E. Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Lu Shan at the Marshal’s Office in Toruń earlier today in connection with the congress.

The Congress is organized by the Professor Czesław Mojsiewicz Foundation for the Support of International Cooperation in cooperation with the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, the University of Warsaw, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, and the Asia-Pacific Society. The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Regional Self-Government is a strategic partner of the event.

Part of the event is the Business Forum titled “From Potential to Profit: How Polish Companies Successfully Enter Asian Markets”, featuring speakers and panelists from Asian embassies, business support institutions, and Polish entrepreneurs active in Asian markets. The forum focuses on the markets of Central Asia, the Asia-Pacific region, and Japan.

In addition to representatives of the diplomatic corps, guests of the forum and congress also include representatives of Asian universities and local authorities.

For us, the congress is also an opportunity to promote small and medium-sized enterprises from the region through a project financed under our regional program, European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze. Entrepreneurs from the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region will have the opportunity to present their cooperation potential as well as their products and services in selected Asian markets.

During today’s meeting at the Marshal’s Office, Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski and Ambassador Lu Shan discussed, among other topics, economic cooperation in the fields of energy and automotive industries, as well as student exchange programs. They also reviewed the past two years of study visit exchanges. As part of one of the most recent visits, 16 companies from the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region promoted themselves this spring at the Canton Fair, one of the world’s largest trade fairs (featuring 30,000 exhibitors), dedicated to technology sectors.

The context of today’s meeting – also attended by Grzegorz Borek, Plenipotentiary of the Regional Executive Board, Marta Krużewska, Director of the Department of Economic Development at the Marshal’s Office, and Magdalena Burdziej, Director of the Department of International Cooperation – was the 15th anniversary of cooperation between the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region and China’s Hubei Province.
